Introduction

With a contract for difference (CFD), you can speculate on the price movements of instruments and take a position on it without the need to actually own the underlying asset.

And what makes this so special?

Among its unique aspects is that you can make a profit not just from rising but falling markets as well and that’s why more and more prefer to trade CFD instead of stocks.

So…

If you’re interested in trading CFDs then you’ve probably heard about Plus500 or have seen one of their advertisements online.

It’s a reputable CFD service which has a proprietary set of platforms where you can trade on a variety of instruments online.

The company is listed on the Main Market of the London Stock Exchange and is authorized and regulated by several financial authorities including the FCA, CySEC and ASIC to offer contracts for difference.

Want to know more about Plus500?

Let’s dig a little deeper!

Summary

Everything with Plus500 is just simple starting from the sign-up process to trading until the withdrawal.

Its proprietary platform has a unified and user-friendly design across all supported devices and comes with integrated risk management trading tools.

When it comes to the available instruments or assets, Plus500 offers more than 2000 options with very competitive spreads.

As clearly stated on their website, trading with them involves zero commissions and all of their fees are very transparent.

Reputation-wise, it’s operated by a stable company and is in compliance with multiple regulators.

On the downside…

There’s no comprehensive education center but there’s a detailed FAQ page and the unlimited demo account can be a good training ground for novices.

Traders from the USA are not accepted as of this writing.

Also, Plus500 only offers a CFD service. It doesn’t offer spread betting services.

Note:

While we have tested all of the available Plus500 platforms, most of the screenshots that you will see here are from their WebTrader platform.

Registration

Opening an account with Plus500 is very quick and easy.

Pros

  • Quick registration process
  • Only requires email and password for initial stage
  • 1 account type for all clients

Cons

  • You need to answer a questionnaire (in compliance with regulation)

Countries supported

Most clients from around the globe are allowed to register with Plus500. US, Canada, Philippines, Thailand and Vietnam however are just some of the few exceptions.

To begin with…

There’s no official list of the countries which Plus500 doesn’t support on their website.

So what now?

If you’re not sure if your country is supported or not, it’s easy to find out because their website will automatically detect your location and will show you a notification via their website.

Just make sure that you’re opening an account from where you are physically located and you’re not using any VPN (virtual private network).

Plus500 registration restrictions

Plus500 registration restrictions

Types of accounts

Unlike other brokerages, there’s only 1 type of account with Plus500 so there are no gold or corporate/company accounts.

Yes, you read that right!

That means everyone gets to enjoy the same perks and benefits. No one gets treated differently and there are no restricted features whatever amount you deposit.

How about bonuses?

Unfortunately, there are sign-up bonuses that you can use when you register with Plus500.

This is due to their compliance with regulators that licensed brokers are no longer allowed to offer any form of bonus, sign-up offers, trader points or incentives to their clients.

Demo account

Anyone who opens an account with Plus500 will have the privilege to access an unlimited demo account. You can use this feature to do explore the platform if you’re a first-time user or do practice trades risk-free.

Moreover…

It’s preloaded with $10,000 virtual funds which you can use as much as you like. If it comes to a point that your demo balance reaches $200 or below, it will be reset back to $10,000.

No pressure there!

It’s possible to access the demo immediately when you sign-up for an account by selecting the “Demo Mode” in the “Select Account Mode” window or clicking on “Switch to Demo Mode” on the bottom portion of the main platform screen.

Plus500 demo account virtual funds

Plus500 demo account virtual funds

By contrast…

Some brokerages also offer demo accounts but the downside is that the market situations are not realistic but rather simulated differently.

Fact:

Expert traders have developed most of their strategies and tactics by fully utilizing this feature.

The great thing about Plus500’s demo account is that it still replicates real market conditions so you can play around with the platform and immerse yourself with the market conditions and understand it better.

In addition to that…

You’ll also be able to build confidence and your very own strategies before applying them in real-money mode.

How to sign-up?

Plus500’s registration process is fairly simple and will only take a few minutes to accomplish. You can sign up using any of the following options:

It really is that simple!

Once you’ve finished this process, you’ll be instantly taken to the main trading platform screen.

Plus500 registration

Plus500 registration

Here’s how it goes:

At this point, you are already registered and you will be able to access the demo account for free and the Real Money mode as well but in order to begin live trading, you need to have your account verified via the Verification Centre page which has a form that you need to complete.

To verify your identity and proof of residency you need to upload the following:

  • Copy of your ID or passport
  • Bank statement or utility bill

Once these two things have been accomplished, Plus500’s staff will verify these documents and you will be able to access the deposit menu to initially fund your account.

Minimum deposit

With Plus500, you’ll only need to deposit a minimum of $100 on your account if you’ll be using credit or debit cards.

Quite simply…

Although not the lowest, this is still a lot lower than what most brokerages require and is the ideal amount if you’re just a beginner or starting out with CFD trading.

However, if you’re going to use bank transfers for funding your account, the minimum accepted amount is $500.

Here’s the deal!

If you’re a long-term trader, this might probably not matter much anymore since you’ll most likely to make subsequent deposits anyway.

Trading Platforms

Plus500’s trading platform is incredibly slick, loads very quick and has a simple layout which makes it easier to get used to.

Pros

  • Proprietary software
  • User-friendly
  • Uniform design across all platforms

Cons

  • Doesn’t allow customization

Plus500 has a suite of proprietary platforms which means that they have developed it in-house and won’t need to rely on a third party software provider.

It’s a rarity in this market for a brokerage to have the technological capability to have their own software and the great thing about their platforms is that it is available across several different versions.

And another thing…

Regardless of whether you chose to trade with Plus500 on a browser or download and install any of their free apps, the platform won’t eat a lot of system resources.

Based on our extensive test and review, it loads quickly and won’t experience any lags.

User-friendliness

Plus500 has seriously done a good job in making UI (user interface) very straightforward so there’s no chance that you’ll get lost while using it.

Even if you’re a newbie, you’ll certainly find the process of placing trades to be very easy which is a good thing since everyone wants to have a no-frills trading experience.

The cool thing is…

There’s actually no significant difference among the platforms for web, mobile and PC’s so it’s very easy to get used to the interface because all of Plus500’s platforms almost look the same.

It’s just that each platform was optimized specifically for the operating system or program that you’re using.

Just look at the two photos below.

So let’s take a closer look…

For example, if you’re interested to trade on the US dollar, you can just enter “dollar” or USD and you will have the list of all the assets that are linked with this currency including other classes like indices, cryptocurrencies and others.

Favorites

If you’re going to trade on a specific instrument most of the time then it would be best to add them to your favorites.

What makes this so special?

This will save you time from searching for the underlying asset every time you want to place a Buy or Sell CFD order and it can be really handy especially if your in a rush and wouldn’t want to miss a trading opportunity.

Let us show you how:

All you have to do is find that particular asset, click on the star and it will automatically be added to your favorites. You can add as many favorites as you want but we suggest placing there only the most important assets since you don’t want to cramp up this list.

This list will be saved on the “My Favorites” section which can be found on the upper portion of the list of instruments and under the “Most Popular” category.

Order types

You can place different types of orders on Plus500’s online trading platform:

  • Market order – This is basically the default type of order and will be the one you’ll place if you want to immediately execute an order.
  • Close at profit – This allows you to pre-set a value on the system for buying or selling an underlying asset. This is also called “stop limit”.
  • Close at loss – Also known as “stop loss”, it stops the order to buy or sell when the underlying asset’s value reaches the pre-set price in order to avoid or minimize losses.
  • Trailing stop – You can use this order type to keep your positions open as long as the underlying asset’s price movement is in your favor and automatically close it once it changes direction by the number of pips that you set.
  • Guaranteed stop – This is order type can be very useful if the close at loss order won’t be executed at your pre-set value during certain market conditions such as volatility. Even if its market value has already surpassed this pre-set value, the position will be automatically closed hence the term “guaranteed”.

The Close at Profit, Close at Loss, Guaranteed Stop and Trailing Stop are simple yet very powerful trading tools that you can use to manage the risks.

Here’s why:

These orders allow you to set a specific rate to automatically close at a specific price level to protect your profit or minimize your loss.

Notifications

If you’re the type of user who wants to be immediately alerted if something happens to your trades or you want information delivered to you ASAP, then you’ll definitely enjoy the notifications feature.

Here’s how it goes:

On the platform’s list of assets, click on the bell icon to launch its alerts configuration window.

Here, you can set the platform to send you alerts based on the following:

These notifications can be sent to your email, via SMS on the verified phone number that you linked to your account or via push notifications on the platform application.

And the best part?

All of these notifications are free of charge!

Quotes Accuracy

Remember:

The accuracy of the quotes that are shown on the platform of your broker is highly important as it will be the basis of your trading success.

This part is easy!

Try to compare their quotes from the actual market prices and if your broker shows prices that are far different from what you see from real-time market feeds then it is most likely a scam.

And the test result?

It’s good to know that re-quotes or slippages are not common with Plus500 as their trading platform usually shows the accurate prices before and ever after the deal.

Since we’ve proven that Plus500 doesn’t rig the platform prices, we’re giving them an excellent score for this important category.

Fee details

Plus500’s platform is very transparent with the fees that you need to pay when you’re going to trade. You can see the complete details so you won’t get any surprise charges every time you open or close an order.

Tradable Assets

Pros

  • More than 2000 instruments

Pretty huge.

You see, most brokerages offer around 100 to 200 instruments but with Plus500, you’ll be able to invest on over 2000 choices.

Deposits and Withdrawals

Making a deposit as well as withdrawal with Plus500 is easy and hassle-free.

Pros

Cons

  • Deposit only possible if you have a verified account

Supported currencies

The base currency for the platform will be dependent on your location so if you’re from Germany then your account will automatically be in Euro and if you’re from Australia then the account will use the Australian dollar currency.

There’s no option for you to pick your own desired currency upon registration or even after it so if you’re planning to change it then it would be best to contact the customer support department.

So please take note:

This is only possible as long as you haven’t made any initial deposit into your account.

Look:

It would be best to adapt to the currency your source of funds such as your bank or credit card to avoid any conversion fees.

For example, if your credit card account uses Euros then better use the same as well for your Plus500 account instead of US dollar or British pound so you won’t incur any hefty currency exchange charges.

However, if your payment method is a multi-currency account that has free or reasonable conversion rates then this won’t be a problem.

Deposits

Currently, these are the payment methods that are supported by Plus500:

  • Debit/Credit cards (Visa or MasterCard)
  • Electronic wallets (PayPal or Skrill)
  • Bank transfer (Direct bank to bank funds transfer)

In general…

These are considered to be the most commonly used banking methods today and require uncomplicated processes in transferring funds.

Basically, depositing money to the account is fast and simple and you have a good number of options.

Withdrawals

If you used a credit card to initially fund your account, then this will also be the same card where the funds will be credited for the first attempt even if you specified a different payment method during the withdrawal request.

Let’s jump right in

In case that the first attempt failed, this is the only time that Plus500 will refund the amount on the secondary payment method.

Also

Should you decide to transfer it via PayPal, it’s possible that you will need to sign-in to your PayPal account and claim the funds.

Don’t forget…

We strongly suggest that you verify your PayPal account email address first prior to making a claim.

Withdrawal processing time

The frustration of most traders today is that there are brokers that tend to delay the processing time of their withdrawals and in some cases, these withdrawals are not even processed at all.

So how long for withdrawals with Plus500?

Fortunately, Plus500 is very fast in handling withdrawal requests with a standard processing time of up to 3 days.

What does this mean?

This proves that Plus500 is trustworthy because they are able to fulfill their promise in paying their clients the money that is rightfully theirs.

Fees and Charges

Plus500 won’t surprise you with any hidden fees and all their charges are very transparent.

Pros

  • No hidden fees
  • No dealing commissions
  • Easy to avoid inactivity fee

Cons

  • Overnight funding

Spreads

Plus500 doesn’t earn from commissions and is compensated via the market spread which is the difference in price between the instrument’s buy price and sell price.

Some of their biggest competitors charge different commissions for trading on different share categories depending on the country or market but with Plus500, their clients can trade with 0 commissions.

Some instruments have fixed spread (doesn’t change) while others have dynamic spreads and change very often.

What’s the real story?

As a trader, it is essential for you to be aware of these spreads as it will measure how much you will be able to get from a successful trade.

In general, Plus500’s spreads are considerably better than what other brokers can offer and is worthy of a high score.

Guaranteed stop order

Using this order assures that your trade will be closed a pre-set value and since it’s subject to a wider spread, you will incur a charge for closing your position.

Overnight funding

If you’re going to hold a position for more than a day, your account will have this amount be added or subtracted.

Here’s how:

To determine the overnight funding time and the daily overnight funding percentage, click on your desired asset on the trading platform and look for the “I” inside a blue circle to reveal the instrument details.

Inactivity fee

If you haven’t used the platform for three months, you will be charged with a maximum penalty of $10 to cover for the costs for maintaining your account and the service active.

The good news is…

It’s easy to avoid this fee as you only need to sign-in to your account every now and then. Such task will only usually require less than a minute to accomplish.

Pros

  • Demo account has a real-time trading environment

Cons

  • No dedicated education center
  • No comprehensive resources or tools for learning

While some brokerages offer dedicated education centers or trading academies, Plus500 doesn’t have this kind of feature.

Then again…

The FAQ page has practically all the basic information and tutorials that you need about their platform and their services.

Plus500 may not have any comprehensive videos, e-books and other resources but what’s available is more than enough to get you started.

Customer Support

Getting in touch with the customer service department is not a problem even if Plus500 doesn’t have a phone support.

Pros

  • Live chat integrated on the platform
  • Can be contacted 24/7
  • Very professional and well-trained agents

Cons

  • No phone support
  • No ticket submission

Let’s not forget:

One of the most important consideration in choosing a particular broker is consistency in customer service.

How’s that?

They must be able to provide you with all the information that you require from them and if they go the extra mile just to attend to your needs and answer your queries, that would be even better!

Plus500’s customer support is available via email and live chat. The only downside here is that there’s currently no phone support.

So how did it turn out?

We’ve tried to contact Plus500 by sending a list of inquiries to their email support and this specific department was able to attend and answer them immediately with a fast response time of just around 20 minutes.

The thing is…

Usuallly, it would take around a day or the next day to get a reply from the email support of majority of brokers which is why Plus500’s response time via this channel is way faster.

Plus500 contact form

Plus500 contact form

We also found the email conversations that we had with their support agents to be very honest and sincere.

The responses were very quick and Plus500’s agents did not try to use any marketing tactics at all throughout our discussion.

Here’s the kicker!

If you want to use the live chat, you can only access this channel when you have a registered account and logged-in to their platform.

So it all adds up to this…

Plus500 has kind of customer service that we’re looking for and we were really surprised at how efficient their support team is.

These are the main reasons why we’re giving them a high score for customer service.

Reputation

Plus500 has been able to keep an established credibility since the company started its operations.

Pros

  • Listed on the Main Market of the London Stock Exchange
  • Has licenses from various regulators
  • Operating since 2008

Cons

  • None

Is Plus500 safe?

That’s probably one of the most common questions that are asked by traders and you’ll get that answer here.

We can’t emphasize enough…

You need to be with a broker that is honest and transparent. And looking at Plus500’s reputation, they definitely lived up to it.

So yes, Plus500 is safe and below are some of the many reasons why.

Background

To begin with…

Plus500 was founded back in 2008 so this means that this CFD service have been in the business for more than a decade. 10 years is no doubt a good number to prove their stability.

And as of this writing, Plus500 is listed on the Main Market of the London Stock Exchange.

These two facts alone are solid indications that Plus500 is operated by a stable and financially strong company.

But you know what else?
